Say YES to The House of You and NO to The House You Pass on the Way

If you check Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for your news or find your news in a more traditional outlet such as CNN or Fox News you most certainly have seen examples of how others are living or even the houses they live in or plan to live in on a show like Fixer Upper.  Or maybe we are stuck with a bit of jealously when you pass a neighbor’s house on the way home from work or a day out with the family.  We all strive for the best in things in life and the house we live in is no exception.  Sometimes we throw out the window sensible logic that screams “YOU CAN’T AFFORD THIS” and go ahead and purchase an item anyways.  I know I have been guilty of this on occasion.  My guilty pleasure is sunglasses.  I haven’t met a pair of sunglasses I didn’t like or think I needed to add to my collection.

While a house on the outside may look like a dream home, we do not know if the house on the inside is more like the house of yoga or the house of flowers where all is calm and serene or if the inside is simply being held up by a house of cards.  It is up to you to be sure you don’t think about how much house you can afford or cling to a house you don’t need, but think you do because it seems like everyone around you has one.  Be happy with what you have and the house of you that is built for a purpose and structured for your plan and nobody else.

Your professional career should be handled in much the same manner.  Study the subjects that you like and have an interest in, not your friend, relative or roommate.  Apply for jobs that align with your goals and aspirations, not others.  And your future self will thank you if what you have inside AND outside of The House of You is what you want, is within your means and ability.  Don’t worry about what others think because more than likely they could care less unless they are the self-absorbed judgmental person, which in all reality you would be better off without them, let alone care about what they think of you and your house.  And don’t be in the mindset of “I’ll house you” or I’ll one up you.  It took me well over 30 years for me to realize this and change my mentality of worrying about or comparing myself to others.  So next time you find yourself falling into a slump, know that there is someone out there that has been there and done that.  And that person is me.  So be unique, be yourself and Say Yes to The House of You NO to The House You Pass on the Way!
