Digital Footprint
D is for Digital Footprint.
Your Digital Footprint encompasses everything you do on your smart phones, tablets and computers. Included in that are the use of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat, Twitter and LinkedIn to name a few of the most popular.
LinkedIn should primarily be used for career oriented content and usage, while the other social media platforms most represent, what you would use, personally, with friends and family.
Remember that as a general rule, everything you like, post, and comment on can be viewed by others, including Human Resource reps and hiring managers who are the gatekeepers between you, other job candidates and an employment opportunity...
Make sure that anything you tie your name to digitally is something you won’t mind if a Human Resource rep or a hiring manager see because they more than likely will see. Just as you are careful with what you include on your resume résumé, you want to be just as careful what you are sharing with the world through the internet of things.
You could involuntarily withdraw your chance at a great career opportunity if you are not careful with the pictures you post or the comments you make digitally, such as deciding to post photos of you partying on spring break or commenting using less than appropriate language...
Don’t let that be you. You can still have fun with your friends, but be careful what you share digitally because a short-sighted decision in the moment could lead to a negative impacting a potential career opportunity.
