The Performance Review and The Bragg Sheet

The Performance Review is a process that many companies go through on an annual or bi-annual basis.  It can be a stressful time whether it is your first time through the process or hundredth time.

This is where you are rated against the objectives your company and manager have set forth.  You will be scored against not only whether you did not meet/met/exceeded expectations on your

In my experience, the employees that generally meet or exceed their expectations on their reviews, are those that keep track of their key milestones or accomplishments.  Usually, these accomplishments or milestones are recorded electronically in a Word or Notepad document.  This is a practice that I and many of my peers continue to use, because it takes the pressure off having to remember a year’s worth of accomplishments, during a very short review window, which can be as narrow as a couple of days.

I call this the Bragg sheet, to keep track of not only your accomplishments, but what you learned, and how you have grown, because you are bragging in a good way about the work, and projects, you have completed and want to receive credit for during the crucial review time period.  This can be kept on a flash drive or even an app on your iPhone or Android phone.  Keep this somewhere that can easily be found and updated.

So, the Bragg sheet is a great tool not only for review time, but also for updating your resume, which you should do periodically; at the minimum of every 12 months like you do with your Résumé like I recommend in The House of You.

Performance Review can be a cumbersome because merit raises and promotions are often tied to them, but with proper preparation and documentation like the Bragg sheet, you will set yourself up for short and long term success.
